“A Saharan Odyssey: Extraordinary Adventure & Fossil Discovery”
Dr. Paul Sereno is a Professor of Organismal Biology & Anatomy at the University of Chicago and world renowned paleontologist and archaeologist.
Dr. Sereno’s research has led him across the world to explore fossil bearing formations in Mongolia, China, India, Argentina, the western U.S. and the Sahara Desert of northern Africa. Studying fossils from the dawn of the Mesozoic, Dr. Sereno has discovered and worked on some of the earliest dinosaurs to exist including Eoraptor and Herrerasaurus from South America. His expeditions to the Sahara Desert has uncovered a menagerie of new dinosaurs like Nigersaurus, Rugops, Suchomimus, and Afrovenator as well as the largest crocodile, Kaprosuchus (“Boar Croc”). Other finds include Rajasaurus, the first dinosaur skull found in India. More recently, Dr. Sereno has discovered an incredible archaeological site in the heart of the Sahara dating back to around 10,000 years ago that preserves the remains of fish, crocodiles, hippos, and the remains of intertwined skeletons of a mother and two children which have come to be known as “stone age embrace.”
