National Fossil Day

Celebrate National Fossil Day with Burpee Museum!

Burpee Museum invites you to celebrate National Fossil Day on October 15th from 10am to 5pm! National Fossil Day, which was established in 2010, celebrates and highlights the scientific and educational value of fossil discovery. 

Celebrate with us by attending sessions and stations on fossil preparation, aquatic and land animal fossils from the Eocene period, and PaleoArt! Touch and feel specimens from our collections, like ammonites and trilobites, while learning about the unique history of the Eocene period. You can even experience a special sneak peak in our collections with our paleontologists to see the behind-the-scenes action of fossil care by signing up for our Paleo Lab Tours. Don't forget to attend our workshops for some hands-on fossil fun!

General Admission Costs:

  • Nonmembers:
    • Adults (13+): $14
    • Children (4-12): $12
    • Children 3 and Under: Free!
  • Members: Free!

Paleo Lab Tour: 30 minute session, $2 upcharge for each individual 

Workshops:

  • Art of the Earth - Walking Whales! (ages 7+)
    • Workshop Information: Learn how artists and scientists can work together to create a visual representation of a time on Earth we have never seen before!  
    • Cost: $5 for Members, $10 for Nonmembers
    • Sessions: 11am - 12pm or 2pm to 3pm
  • The Great Fossil Lakes: Aquariums in Stone (ages 3+)
    • Workshop Information: 55 million years ago, massive lakes covered the western United States and preserved countless fossils from tiny horses to schools of fish. Learn how these animals became fossils and make your own Fossil Lake in a jar!
    • Cost: $8 for Members, $12 for Nonmembers
    • Sessions: 12:15pm - 1pm or 3:30pm - 4:15pm
