Registration for Scout Programs is open and ongoing.

Use our state of the art exhibits and experienced staff to enhance your scouting program!   We offer badge and pin workshops for a wide age range of Scouts - participants will complete all of the requirements for a specific badge or pin unless otherwise stated (badges/pins not provided). 

One adult is required for every 5 scouts (i.e. 1 adult for 1-5 scouts, 2 adults for   6–10 etc). Please be aware some programs fill quickly.  Your registration is not confirmed until payment is received. Burpee Museum reserves the right to limit enrollments or cancel any class. Every effort will be made to notify registrants when a class is cancelled.

Boy Scouts

Scout Program-Boy Scouts Indian Lore
Saturday November 3
10.15 am – 2.30 pm
Learn about Native Americans of our area. See Native American artifacts from the Museum collection. Learn about the food, shelter and clothing of native people, and make a leather craft. Bring a sack lunch.
$12 per scout, one adult for every 5 scouts free, additional adults $4 each


Scout Program-Boy Scouts Geology
Saturday December 15
10.15 am – 2.30 pm
The boys will earn the Geology Merit Badge in this hands-on workshop. Bring a sack lunch.

Scout Program-Boy Scouts-Archaeology
Saturday January 12
10.15am – 3.15 pm
Learn about archaeology in this hands-on workshop. Participate in a simulated archaeological dig, see and handle Native American artifacts and learn about a local Native American tribe. Two requirements will need to be completed ahead of time and reports presented during the workshop. Leaders will be sent the requirements when they register. Bring a sack lunch.
One adult required for every 5 scouts

$12 per scout, one adult for every 5 scouts free, additional adults $4 each

Scout Sleepover-Boy Scout Astronomy   FULL
Friday February 8 – Saturday February 9
7.00 pm – 9.30 am
This sleepover is a fun introduction to Astronomy. We’ll use the museum’s telescope and the “Sky Globe” computer program to learn about the sun, moon, planets, stars, and constellations. There will be a make and take project and you’ll finish the evening listening to wonderful Greek myths and Native American legends. Dress to be outside for part of the night (weather permitting). Evening snack and continental breakfast are included. Some homework is necessary beforehand to complete the badge requirements. Leaders will be sent the requirements when they register.
$35 per person, One adult required for every 5 scouts

10.15am – 3.15 pm

Saturday May 4
10.00 am – 12.30 pm
The boys will earn their merit badge as they learn about mammals through our exhibits and collections. Requirement 3c will need to be completed prior to this session and a written report presented.

A naturalist studies living creatures and plants in the wild. Earn the Naturalist Pin using our biology exhibit, Windows to Wilderness, and the Museum grounds. Dress to be outside part of the time.
$8 per scout, one adult for every 5 scouts free, additional adults

$4 each


Scout Program-Webelos-Forester
Saturday September 22
1.30 – 3.30 pm
Using the variety of trees on the museum grounds and the beautiful woodwork in our older building, the boys will earn their Forester Pin. Dress to be outside part of the time.
$8 per Scout, one adult for every 5 scouts free, additional adults $4 each


Scout Program-Webelos-Geologist
Saturday October 6
10.00 am – 12.00 pm
Earn the Webelos Geologist badge and have a great time exploring the GeoScience exhibit and discovering different kinds of rocks. Learn what fossils are common in Illinois and discover the Illinois State fossil. Try out the methods geologists use to identify minerals.
$8 per scout, one adult for every 5 scouts free, additional adults

$4 each

Spend the night at Burpee Museum and learn about Astronomy. Bring pajamas, sleeping bag, flashlight, toothbrush etc. Dress to be outside for part of the night (weather permitting). Evening snack and continental breakfast are included.
$35 per person, one adult for every five scouts required.

Wolves and Bears
Scout Program-Wolves and Bears Indian Lore
Saturday January 26
10.00am – 12.00 pm
Earn arrow points by learning about Native American life in our First Peoples exhibit. Hear Native American stories in a real wigwam; make a traditional Native American home and musical instrument, play a Native American game, and use word pictures to write a Native American story.
Pre-registration and payment required
One adult required for every 5 scouts (i.e. 1 adult for 1-5 scouts, 2 adults for 6–10 etc).
$8 per scout, one adult for every 5 scouts free, additional adults $4 each
Girl Scouts

Interested in programs for Girl Scouts?  We can arrange a field trip Monday through Friday for individual troops on a number of different topics.  Minimum numbers and fees apply.
